Procedure Information
This scan identifies the sentinel lymph node(s) where cancer cells may have spread. The procedure at the RVI involves four small injections of a radioactive tracer near the site of your tumour. This is followed by a scan that includes SPECT and CT imaging to map the lymph nodes clearly.
A small amount of radioactivity will remain in your system for a few days. You should eat and drink as normal, and drink extra fluids to help clear the tracer. The additional amount of radiation from a SPECT CT scan is small and not associated with any side effects.
