Procedure Information
A SeHCAT scan is a procedure to determine how well your gut is able to absorb bile acids. Poor absorption of bile acids can result in chronic diarrhoea. This test can assist in the diagnosis and help in making a decision about the best treatment for you.
The scan involves two appointments over seven days. At the first appointment, you will swallow a capsule. A scan will be performed 1 hour later. You will then return 7 days later for a second scan. Both scans take less than 5 minutes. Some medications must be stopped before the test.
